According to Fidel Castro's biography, he was never really a Communist. It was apparently a show to keep the USA out of his little country. The Solviets were glad to get a foothold in the west and they latched onto him. He said he still goes to church and prays always. In Cuba, people still go to church too. We were there during Easter and it was celebrated even more intensely that in Canada for instance. Latin people are intense anyway. However it IS a police state. there's no doubt about that. Airport security is very tight. The gurards'police are dressed in clean, pressed uniforms and are polite but firm. I would hate to see the USA move in and take over again. The Cubans are so proud of thei Cuba and are devoted to Fidel. But he has to die sometime and Raul is an old man too.
Nice pictures Donna. The little fellow in the checkered coat looks like an old timer with his button up coat and his hands folded. He just needs a pipe and a hat.
